The park is best known for Skyline Drive

a 105-mile (169 km) road that runs the length of the park along the mountain ridge

101 miles (163 km) of the Appalachian Trail are also in the park.  

 In total, there are more than 500 miles (800 km) of trails within the park. 

on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is also designated as a National Scenic Byway

 There is also horse riding, camping, cycling and several waterfalls. 

Skyline Drive is the first National Park Service road east of the Mississippi River to be listed as a National Historic Landmark
