Every year many people come to visit Kolkata, There are many places to visit in Kolkata and one of them is the Alipore Zoological Garden in Kolkata It is one of the oldest and largest zoo in India It was opened in 1875 and covers an area of 46.48 acres There are about 1267 wildlife animals of about 109 species, About 30 million people come to visit this zoo every year.
Way to alipore zoo :
Then at six o’clock in the I got up early in the morning and get ready to go to the zoo I usually prefer to visit alone when I go somewhere far away, but Alipore Zoo is very close to my house so I was going there with some friends I have been to this zoo many times before Mostly with family and
went when I was so younger,
At first we planned to go to Aquatica but for some reason Aquatica was closed that day and we went to Alipore Zoo, it is one of the famous tourist destinations in Kolkata And since I was a child, I have a special touch with wildlife animals, so I went out without delay.
If you are coming to Kolkata from any other state or country then first you have to come to Sealdah station, Howrah station or Kolkata airport.
How to reach Alipore Zoo from Howrah station:
If you want to go to the Zoo from Howrah station You can book a cap or taxi from here and go directly to Zoo or you can take a bus to Alipore from here. The cheapest and easiest way to reach the Alipore zoo is Take a bus from Howrah to Khidirpur and take an auto or Toto from there to the zoo.
How to reach Alipore Zoo from sealdah station:
It is located just seven and a half kilometers from Sealdah if you want to go to the Zoo from Sealdah station You can go there directly by booking a cap or texi The rent will be around 150 to 200 rupees,
Or you can take a bus directly from Sealdah to the zoo for only 10 rupees, The cheapest way to reach Alipore Zoo from Sealdah is to take a bus or train to Alipore station and walk from there.
Enter the zoo:
It was about 12 o’clock when we got there the Alipore zoo ticket price was only 30 rupees per person After cutting the ticket we entered and first of all we saw the deer and panthers You can see small maps everywhere in the Zoo where it says where all animal’s is located,
Zoo has a beautiful field and seating area You can sit there and relax for a while The zoo is so big it will take you about four to five hours to tour it completely.

Alipore zoo timing is 10am to 6pm in summers and 10am to 5pm in winters We entered the zoo at 12 o’clock and left at about 6 o’clock We carried some food and a sheet for sitting, Everyone who goes here brings a sheet and some food items from home It feels very good to sit here and eat and drink with everyone,
You will find many food shops inside the zoo but the prices are very high so it is better to bring food from home,
Animals to see Alipore Zoo in Kolkata:
about 1266 animals of 108 species are located here, Here you can see different types of animals and birds from country and abroad as well, Here you can see a lot of animals like Bengal Tiger, African Lion, Asiatic lion, Jaguar, Leopard, Jungle cat, Golden jackal, White tiger, Fishing cat, Striped hyena etc.
If we talk about birds, there are different types of birds like big parrot, kakatua, American Macau,Griffon vulture, Great horned owl, Osprey, Domestic goose, Lesser whistling teal, Emu, Painted stork,Spot-billed pelican
Here you can also see different types of reptiles like alligator, ghadiyal, Indian ghadiyal, Saltwater crocodil, Mugger crocodile,Aldabra giant tortoise, King cobra, Indian python,
Indian star tortoise, Yellow anaconda. There was a tortoise here tortoise was about 250 years old and he died in 2006.
history of Alipore Zoo in Kolkata:
The zoo was established by the then Indian Governor General Richard Wellesley He established it in Barrackpore, a town near kolkata, around 1800 And later it was transferred to Kolkata In 1873,
the then Governor Sir Richard Temple issued a formation to build it in Kolkata And the government finally gave permission for the construction of the zoo and allotted thr land for zoo.
The zoo finally opened on January 1 in the Kolkata, And then different kinds of animals and birds are brought here like African buffalo,domestic sheep, four horn sheep, sambar deer,hog deer, Zanzibar Ram etc. Ram brahma Sanyal is the first superintendent of this zoo.
Attraction of Alipore Zoo in Kolkata:
Winter and summer 2 seasons are very crowded here But in my opinion it is very good to come here in winter, Because you can’t walk around here in the scorching heat of Kolkata In winter, it is more crowded than any other tourist attraction in Kolkata About 90,000 people visit here only on Christmas and the first of January.
The main attraction here is the African Bush Elephant, Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic lion, African lion, hippopotamus, Jaguars, great Indian one horned rhinos, grand zebra, Indian Elephant, reticulated giraffe etc.
